Plagiarism Screening

Jurnal Pendidikan dan Studi Islam (PISI) is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication. To prevent plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct, all submitted manuscripts are screened for similarity using Turnitin.

Similarity Checking

Every manuscript submitted to PISI is subject to a similarity check before entering or during the peer-review process. The screening is conducted using Turnitin, a plagiarism and similarity detection system.

The journal applies the following general similarity standard:

Maximum overall similarity: 20%

Manuscripts with an overall similarity score of 20% or below may proceed to the next stage of the editorial process, subject to editorial assessment and compliance with other journal requirements.

A similarity score above 20% does not automatically constitute plagiarism. The editorial team will examine the Turnitin report to determine the nature, source, and context of the detected similarities.

Editorial Assessment

The editorial team may evaluate:

  • Overall similarity percentage
  • Sources contributing to the similarity score
  • Direct quotations
  • Properly cited and referenced material
  • Similarity in the bibliography or reference list
  • Common academic terminology
  • Methodological expressions
  • Reuse of the authors' previously published material
  • Potential plagiarism or inappropriate text reuse

The final decision is based on editorial examination of the Turnitin report, rather than the similarity percentage alone.

Manuscripts with High Similarity

If a manuscript exceeds the 20% similarity threshold, the editorial team may:

  1. Return the manuscript to the author for revision.
  2. Request clarification regarding the detected similarities.
  3. Require inappropriate or excessive similarity to be properly paraphrased and cited.
  4. Conduct an additional similarity check after revision.
  5. Reject the manuscript if substantial plagiarism or unethical text reuse is identified.

Manuscripts containing significant unattributed copying, regardless of the overall similarity percentage, may be rejected immediately.

Plagiarism and Academic Misconduct

PISI considers plagiarism a serious violation of academic integrity. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text without appropriate citation.
  • Presenting another person's ideas as one's own.
  • Inappropriate paraphrasing.
  • Copying substantial portions of another work.
  • Self-plagiarism or inappropriate reuse of previously published material.
  • Duplicate or redundant publication.
  • Manipulation of citations or references to conceal plagiarism.

Authors are fully responsible for ensuring the originality and academic integrity of their manuscripts.

Author Responsibility

Before submitting a manuscript, authors are encouraged to conduct their own similarity check and carefully review the manuscript for any potentially problematic text.

Authors should ensure that:

  • All quotations are properly identified and cited.
  • Paraphrased ideas are appropriately referenced.
  • All sources are included in the reference list.
  • Previously published material is appropriately acknowledged.
  • No substantial text is reproduced without appropriate attribution or permission.

Re-Screening

A revised manuscript may be screened again using Turnitin when substantial textual changes have been made or when the editorial team considers additional screening necessary.

The editorial team reserves the right to conduct additional similarity checks at any stage of the publication process, including after acceptance or publication, if concerns regarding originality arise.
