Author Guidelines

1. General Information

Jurnal Pendidikan dan Studi Islam (PISI) welcomes original research articles, conceptual papers, theoretical studies, review articles, and interdisciplinary studies related to education and Islamic studies. Manuscripts must present original, significant, and academically rigorous contributions to the development of knowledge.

Authors are encouraged to carefully read and follow these guidelines before submitting a manuscript. Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal's requirements may be returned to the authors for revision before entering the peer-review process.

Submission of a manuscript to PISI implies that:

The manuscript is original and has not been previously published.
The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal.
All authors have substantially contributed to the research and manuscript.
All authors have approved the submitted version.
The manuscript does not contain plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or other forms of academic misconduct.
The research complies with applicable ethical standards.
All sources used in the manuscript are appropriately acknowledged and cited.
Any potential conflict of interest has been disclosed.

2. Types of Manuscripts

PISI accepts the following types of scholarly manuscripts:

A. Original Research Article

Original research articles report empirical findings based on qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, historical, comparative, case study, ethnographic, action research, research and development, or other rigorous research approaches.

B. Conceptual Article

Conceptual articles present theoretical arguments, critical analyses, new conceptual frameworks, or scholarly perspectives on important issues within education and Islamic studies.

C. Review Article

Review articles provide systematic, critical, and comprehensive analyses of existing literature on a specific research topic. Review manuscripts should demonstrate a clear methodology for identifying, selecting, and analyzing relevant literature.

D. Interdisciplinary Article

PISI welcomes interdisciplinary studies that integrate education and Islamic studies with other relevant fields, including sociology, psychology, philosophy, technology, economics, anthropology, history, environmental studies, communication, and public policy.

3. Language

Manuscripts should preferably be written in English. Manuscripts written in Indonesian may also be considered for publication.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are written in clear, grammatically correct, and academically appropriate language. Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally proofread before submission.

4. Manuscript Length

The recommended manuscript length is approximately 5,000–8,000 words, including the main text, references, tables, figures, and notes.

Longer manuscripts may be considered when the additional length is justified by the research design, data, analysis, or scholarly contribution.

5. Manuscript Format

Manuscripts should be prepared using the following general formatting requirements:

File format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)
Page size: A4
Font: Times New Roman
Main text: 12 pt
Line spacing: 1.15 or 1.5
Text alignment: Justified
Margins: approximately 2.5 cm on all sides
Paragraphs should be clearly structured and consistently formatted.
Manuscripts should use appropriate headings and subheadings.
Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively.
References must follow the required citation style consistently.

Authors are strongly encouraged to use the journal's official manuscript template when preparing their submissions.

6. Manuscript Structure

For original research articles, the manuscript should generally follow the structure below:

Title

The title should be:

Concise and informative.
Specific to the research topic.
Reflective of the main variables, concepts, or phenomena studied.
Free from unnecessary abbreviations.
Preferably no more than 15–20 words.

The title should be written in English. An Indonesian title may be included when required by the journal's publication system.

Author Names

List the full names of all authors without academic degrees or professional titles.

For each author, provide:

Full name
Institutional affiliation
Department or study program
University or institution
City and country
ORCID, if available
Active email address

The corresponding author should be clearly identified.

Abstract

The abstract should provide a concise summary of the entire study and should generally contain:

Background or research problem

The abstract should be written as one paragraph, preferably between 200–250 words.

The abstract should not contain:

Citations
Tables
Figures
Footnotes
Unnecessary abbreviations

Keywords

Provide 3–6 keywords that represent the main concepts of the manuscript.

Keywords should be separated by semicolons.

7. Introduction

The Introduction should establish a clear academic rationale for the research.

It should generally include:

Background and research context
Relevant scholarly problems
Current state of research
Research gap
Novelty or originality of the study
Theoretical or practical significance
Research objectives
Research questions or hypotheses, where appropriate

Authors should demonstrate why the research is necessary and how it contributes to existing scholarship.

The introduction should not merely provide a general description of the topic. It should establish a clear connection between the research problem, previous studies, research gap, and the purpose of the study.

8. Literature Review and Theoretical Framework

Where appropriate, manuscripts should provide a critical discussion of relevant previous studies and theoretical perspectives.

The literature review should:

Use relevant and credible scholarly sources.
Prioritize recent publications where appropriate.
Identify important theoretical perspectives.
Compare and critically evaluate previous research.
Clearly establish the research gap.
Support the development of the research framework, propositions, or hypotheses.

Authors should avoid presenting the literature review as a simple summary of previous studies.

For manuscripts where the journal template integrates the literature review into the Introduction, authors should follow the structure provided by the official template.

9. Research Method

The Research Method section must provide sufficient information to allow readers to understand and evaluate how the study was conducted.

Depending on the research design, authors should explain:

For quantitative research:

For mixed-methods research:

Product development procedures

The methodology should be sufficiently detailed and transparent.

10. Results

The Results section should present the findings of the study clearly and systematically.

Authors should:

Present findings that directly address the research questions or hypotheses.
Organize results according to the research objectives.
Present quantitative findings using appropriate statistical analysis.
Present qualitative findings using themes, categories, patterns, or relevant analytical structures.
Use tables and figures when they improve clarity.
Avoid unnecessary repetition between the text, tables, and figures.

The Results section should primarily present research findings rather than extensive theoretical interpretation.

11. Discussion

The Discussion section should interpret and critically analyze the research findings.

Authors should:

Explain the meaning and significance of the findings.
Relate findings to relevant theories.
Compare findings with previous studies.
Explain similarities and differences with earlier research.
Discuss possible reasons for unexpected findings.
Explain theoretical contributions.
Explain practical implications.
Highlight the originality or novelty of the study.

The discussion should demonstrate how the findings contribute to the broader scholarly conversation.

Authors should avoid simply repeating the Results section.

12. Conclusion

The Conclusion should provide a concise response to the research objectives and research questions.

It should:

Summarize the principal findings.
Clearly state the main contribution of the study.
Highlight theoretical and/or practical implications.
Avoid introducing new data or arguments.

Where appropriate, authors may include recommendations for practitioners, policymakers, educators, researchers, or future studies.

13. Tables

Tables should be used only when they provide meaningful additional information.

Each table must:

Have a sequential number.
Have a concise and informative title.
Be referred to in the main text.
Be clearly formatted.
Include appropriate source information when necessary.

Authors should report statistical findings using appropriate terminology and provide sufficient information for readers to understand the analysis.

16. Citations and References

PISI encourages authors to use reliable and academically recognized sources, including:

High-quality academic databases

Authors should prioritize recent scholarly literature while also citing seminal works when theoretically necessary.

The journal recommends that authors use a reference-management application such as:

Mendeley
EndNote

All references cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and all references listed must be cited in the manuscript.

The journal recommends the use of APA Style, 7th Edition, unless otherwise specified by the journal's current manuscript template.

Authors should provide DOI information whenever available.

17. Reference Requirements

Authors are encouraged to ensure that:

References are relevant to the manuscript.
References are sufficiently current.
Most references come from credible scholarly sources.
Journal articles constitute a substantial proportion of the references.
References are accurately cited.
Every citation has a corresponding reference entry.
Every reference entry is cited in the manuscript.

Authors should avoid excessive dependence on:

Unverified websites
Personal blogs
Wikipedia
Anonymous online sources
Non-academic materials

unless such sources are directly relevant to the research.

18. Research Ethics

Authors must ensure that research involving human participants complies with applicable ethical standards.

Where relevant, manuscripts should provide information regarding:

Informed consent
Participant confidentiality
Data protection
Ethical approval
Research permissions
Protection of vulnerable participants

Authors should not disclose personally identifiable information without appropriate consent.

19. Plagiarism and Academic Integrity

PISI maintains a strong commitment to academic integrity.

Manuscripts must be original and must not contain:

Fabrication of data
Falsification of data
Duplicate publication
Manipulation of research results
Unethical authorship practices
Citation manipulation

Submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism-detection software.

20. Authorship

22. Funding Disclosure

Authors should disclose all sources of financial support for the research.

23. Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to provide appropriate information regarding the availability of research data.

Where ethically and legally possible, supporting datasets may be made available through appropriate repositories.

If data cannot be publicly shared because of ethical, privacy, confidentiality, or institutional restrictions, authors should clearly explain the limitation.

24. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors may use artificial intelligence tools as supporting tools for activities such as language improvement, grammar checking, translation, formatting, or other appropriate editorial assistance.

However:

AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript.
AI-generated content must be carefully verified.
Authors should disclose substantive use of generative AI where required by applicable publication-ethics standards.
Authors must ensure that the use of AI does not result in plagiarism, fabricated references, fabricated data, or misleading claims.

The use of AI does not transfer responsibility for the manuscript from the authors to the technology provider.

25. Supplementary Materials

Authors may submit supplementary materials when these materials provide additional value to the research.

Supplementary materials may include:

Interview protocols

Coding frameworks
Research documentation

Supplementary materials must be directly relevant to the manuscript and must comply with ethical and copyright requirements.

26. Submission Procedure

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal's official online submission system.

30. Copyright and Licensing

Authors should ensure that they have the necessary rights to publish all materials included in their manuscripts.

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work is original and does not infringe the intellectual property rights of others.

The journal's specific copyright, licensing, and open-access provisions will be applied according to the publication policy stated on the journal website.

31. Author Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that:
